This week we learned about the Multimedia and Contiguity Principles which should impact all educators' creation of media. Simply stated the Multimedia Principles states that words and images should be used to communicate. Words are powerful but to humans learn from both seeing and hearing. The catch is to make the visual aspect simple so it doesn't overwhelm the brain's capacity to process the information. The Contiguity Principle states that placement of words and images to be effective must be contiguous. As in my presentation above the words must be placed close to the images or the part of the image they are addressing.
Learning to make the slides simple and crisp took more time than loading a sliding with information. The notes feature becomes a presenters best friend especially for independent tutorials. This tutorial can be used with a whole class or independently as a review. The directions are relevant for my schools' server and the district's Google Apps.
AECT Standards:
2.1 Creating:
3.1 Creating: Candidates create instructional design products based on learning principles and research based best practices.
